Guitar Amplifiers

A good guitar amplifier can make all the difference in the world as to how your guitar is going to sound. A good amp can make an average guitar sound great while a bad amp can make a high quality guitar sound bad.

Guitar amplifiers range in price from under $50, to many thousands of dollars. An inexpensive amp usually works OK for beginners but will soon find out that their sound production is limited and the only way to deal with it is to upgrade and buy a more expensive amplifier. If you're not sure you will make a serious attempt at playing the guitar, a cheaper amp is probably the way to go. If you are fairly confident you will make an effort on learning how to play, then it would be better to pay a little more for an amp that will give greater flexibility and a wider range of sounds.

Items you might want to look for when buying an amp are at least a 3 band Equalizer (low, mid, and high), a clean channel and an "overdrive" channel which will give you mire of a dirty rock sound, and reverb.

The two main types of guitar amps are tube and transistor. Tube amps use tubes internally and produce a more richer sound than it's solid-state transistor counterpart. Tube amps are usually more expensive and break down a bit. They are also heavier!

The internet is a great place to research the various types of guitar amplifiers available today. If possible, try a few at your local music store to find out how your guitar sounds through each. When ready to purchase, don't forget to look on the Internet for the best deal!
